First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor

First Presbyterian Church is an inclusive and diverse faith community, led by the Holy Spirit, who welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to explore, nurture, and deepen their faith. Through worship, shared discussion, participation, and service, we aim to make God's love felt throughout our congregation, and community, and echo throughout the world. Our challenge is to serve God with joy and to bear witness to God's transforming love made visible in Jesus Christ.

David Prentice-Hyers

Lead Pastor

Dave grew up in East Tennessee and earned his BA from Presbyterian College and his M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary. His early ministry journey took him from Asheville, NC, to Troon, Scotland, and eventually led him to Crossroads Community Ministries in Atlanta, where he worked as a counselor for those experiencing homelessness. Ordained in 2003, Dave served as an Associate Pastor in Waco, TX, and later as a Campus Minister in Ann Arbor, MI, before accepting a call to lead Troon Old Parish Church in Scotland.

Dave, his wife, Mel, and their sons, Finlay and Angus, are excited to continue their ministry back in the U.S. Dave’s passion for storytelling in sermons shines through as he brings scripture to life.

Outside of church, he enjoys music, cooking with his family, and exploring the outdoors on his bike or on foot, but his favorite role of all is being a dad.
